Some Great New Indie, and Some Favorites

Well I've done it, I've stumbled across one of the best Indie Bands I've ever heard. From the looks of it they've just released their second album, and while it's not available on Itunes it was so good I had to download it from their website ($7 for 15 incredible tracks.) They call themselves Corner Street Light and I've got say they sound like a slightly edgier version of Coldplay. Take a listen: http://cornerstreetlight.bandcamp.com/

I'd put Time of Our Lives, Waves and Never Know at the top of my list.

Next up we've got one of my favorite "Jump in the car and blast a song as loudly as you can." Tiger Tears by The Bob Hill Band is.... insanely good? It's catchy, it's loud and it's rambunctious.

+44 titled their album wrong in my opinion -- they showcased one of their worst songs with the title. Luckily, before I dismissed them completely, I heard Make You Smile. It's one of those great songs that don't have that much going on. Just a bit of back and forth, male and female bantering. If you want something a bit on the soothing side here you go.

Right Me Up by State Radio.
Once you get to the chorus, you can't help but (try to) sing along. Watch out, your foot may start involuntarily tapping. This song is in a word, extraordinary. It's constantly evolving into something even better then what it was 10 seconds ago.

And now we'll finish up with one of my favorites -- Heart Delay by Years Around the Sun. I couldn't get rid of this song if I tried. I tend to make monthly playlists, with my favorite songs during that month, and this song manages to make it almost every time.

Week #1

I just created everything I need to start blogging! Quite exciting, as I've never blogged before. Let's see how this goes. Anyways I'm a big fan of good music. I'm the kind of guy that can be so moved by a song that I will lay on my floor for hours with the song on repeat. I always have a hard time finding new music, it's out there sure, but it's not always accessible. That's why I'm creating this blog -- to give everyone one place to find great music. I'll post some new stuff, some old stuff, anything I like at the moment. I've set up an e-mail account for you guys to give me feedback -- whether it be "check out this band" or "nice work" or "you suck", whatever you want, send it to me at hawkscorner@gmail.com. Well here goes!

Burning In The Sun - Blue Merle from the album Burning In the Sun.
This is one of those "so calming it almost puts you to sleep songs." The lyrics are great, the music incredible. You can't go wrong with this song.

Make It Mine - Styrofoam from the album Nothing's Lost.
I'm tempted to say that this song is even more calming then Burning In The Sun. This song is insane. At 9:15 minutes long it's something you'll keep coming back to. I'm a guy who likes my songs short and sweet, but after having this song on repeat for hours I still like it just as much as the first listen.

Statue - Low Millions from the album Ex Girlfriends.
What a song. Listen to it on the surface and it's just got a nice overall sound. Check out the lyrics and you'll be blown away. Relationships are tough, and Adam Cohen's (the lead singer) lyrics really deal with some stuff stuff, without over complicating things or making the listener moody.

Life on a Chain - Pete Yorn from the album Musicforthemorning
Pete Yorn's a talented guy. He tends to slur his words a bit which give him and his music kind of a laid back appeal. Life on a Chain is a great song overall. It's got a great rhythm, perfect for the morning ;)

The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades is Out to Get us! - Sufjan Stevens from the album Illinois
This songs great. It starts off pretty slowly and gets you all set up for a slow, kind of boring song. But then the tempo picks up and your ready for something great, and then it slows down abruptly. And then out of no where a chorus comes in and just blows you away. When Sufjan get's another singer or two with him he makes some really great music, and this is no exception.

That's all for today. Let me know how you like the songs (I love feedback)
